The Town-Hall Maintenance Department has been busy eliminating obstacles for people with mobility problems.
Yes, all the residents in cemeteries have serious mobility problems, but we were referring to visitors, of course.
Accordingly, where there were just steps, there are now also ramps for wheelchair users and as the Town Hall appears to have an endless supply of square cobble stones, the ground has been paved with them.
The First Councillor for La Herradura, José Ruiz Joya, explained that this work was part of the second phase of improvement work to the cemetery. The first phase, you may remember, was to sort out the public toilets, etc.
He admits that as the cemetery has been seemingly stapled to a steep hillside, not all of the facilities have been modified but that “we have done what we can.”
The local building company, Bagelsa, landed the 20,000-euro contract, which includes improving the lighting.
