Almuñécar to be A Bullfighting-Free Zone?

ALM Bullfighting DebateThe IU (far left) party has proposed that Almuñécar be declared an anti-bullfighting town, which should please the governing party no end.

The governing party, the PP – a conservative formation to the marrow – believes in flying the biggest national flag possible on every possible occasion and, of course, that bullfighting is an art form and inseparable from the very essence of being Spanish.

The far-left IU, on the other hand, considers that bullfighting is knuckle-dragging Neanderthal and only one step up from tossing live goats from village bell towers at the culminating moment of a local fiesta.

The IU bases its proposal on the fact that bullfighting is a transgression of the UNESCO Universal Animal Rights approved by the UN, which state, “No animal should be mistreated or subjected to cruel acts.”

Therefore, Ladies and Shopping-Cart Pushers, the sacred art of goat tossing and bull stabbing is a no-no, as is pulling the heads from live geese suspended on a rope across a river.

Let’s face it, none of them have much chance of being accepted as an Olympic Sport any time in the near future…. well perhaps the geese…

The IU cannot understand how bullfighting could be considered an art form: “All manifestations of Art enrich mankind, improving Morals and Ethics, but shows of this kind, based on pain, torture and the death of an animal, cannot help to achieve the goals of Art,” explained the party Spokesman, Fermín Tejero.

The governing conservative have yet to respond to this proposal.
