Motril Bus Station at Last?

MOT OldBus 05The Junta de Andalucia has finally found the funding for the new – and long awaited – bus station in Motril.

The Motrileños are not holding their collective breath, however, because this sort of thing has been announced before, only for the funds to be diverted elsewhere.

Be that as it may, the Junta has just assigned a total of 52m euros from the FEDER (European funds) for the ‘reactivation’ of several construction projects, 19m of which will end up in the Province of Granada. Amongst the dust-covered projects is the Motril bus station.

It was back in December 2010 when the work was to begin ‘imminently,’ but the only imminent beginning was another period of slumber.

The Motril Town Hall has been grumbling recently, demanding that this project and several more in the municipality be put into action but the Junta had replied that until 2017 no funds would be available… and now this.

Work will commence this year, thanks to the 1.7m budget, and conclude in 2015 because it will take 15 months to finish.

What it will look like
The site for the new installations is in the eastern part of the municipality, near the new A-7 connection, so we’re talking about along the Camino Ventanillas/Puntalón road.

It will have twelve platforms inside and two outside for local buses. The main building will cover an area of 600 sq/m.

It is to be remembered that the new installations are to serve the 60,000 inhabitants, plus all the visitors.

But the most important thing is, by happy coincidence, it will be situated pretty close to my car mechanic, so I don’t have to traipse up to the top of town to the old one when I have to leave my failing banger behind for patching up!
