It would appear that Almuñécar will actually have a fire station during the course of next year – election year!
The Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera, accompanied by the Head of the Provincial Consortium of Fire Services, Francisco Javier Maldonado, presented the project before the press. Also present were other jubilant councillors.
God knows that Almuñécar needs a fire station – the town hasn’t stopped growing and the fire service has had to operate out of several temporary installations, including Taramay, Torrecuevas and lately the Municipal Stadium, at one time or another. That hasn’t stopped them from doing an excellent job, however.
The Mayor says that the better part of the funds needed has been provided by the town itself, thanks to the squirreling away of money (Fondos Unespa) over the years. Fifty-five percent of the 800,000-euro budget has been provided by Almuñécar and the remain 45% by the Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos.
The site for the new installations, covering a plot of 1,000 sq/m, will be next to the N-340, with the centre of town close to hand and will also house the Protección Civil service.
