An ex-judge to the Constitution Court, Enrique López, was stopped and fined for riding a motorbike without a helmet and drunk.

Judge López did his ‘Easy Rider’ moment along the Paseo de la Castellana in Central Madrid at 07.30h on a Sunday morning – it had obviously been an eventful Saturday night.

Imagine the joy of the Policía Nacional when the pulled the helmetless rider over and looked at his ID. They immediately called the Municipal Police (as an independent witness, no doubt) to breathalyze the breathless judge.

According to the police, the judge gave a reading of 1.12, which is considerably naughty, to say the least.

The judge recognizes that he was drunk and riding without a helmet but says that there were ‘personal circumstances’ behind his state that eventful morning.

He also recognized that he jumped a read light – the police consider that there was more than one.

The Constitution Court, which is on a par in importance with the Supreme Court of the nation, has refused to make a statement other than “It is a personal affair.”

Judge López used to be the Spokesman for the Consejo General del Poder Judicial (General Council of the Judiciary); i.e., the constitutional body that governs all the Judiciary of Spain, such as courts, and judges.

No wonder the King abdicated…
