Los Motrileños can’t believe it… and they’re not happy: 14,000 traffic fines out of the blue from 2010 and 2011, as we mentioned in a previous article.

The Mayor apologised and blames a change-over in computer programmes in the Town Hall back in 2010; i.e., the 14,000 blighters were mislaid and only now re-found… joyously.

But that’s not the end of it, because the fines from 2012, 2013 and 2014 are panting to be sent out… another 40,000!

So far, the Town Hall has had to open a special office to deal with the herds of irate townsfolk, some of whom have been taking it out on the clerks, suggesting that they are sons of working mothers, belonging to an energetic, horizontal profession…

The fact of the matter is, how can it be legal to demand a surcharge for late payment on a fine, when the fine holder was not informed of its existence until four years later? Over to you on that one, Sra. Alcadesa.

We’ll go out on a limb on this one and guess that the Mayor isn’t planning on being re-elected… just saying!
