The Audit Office for the Junta de Andalucía has found that there has been a colossal lack of control over course funds for the unemployed. The socialist-run Junta is already reeling from a similar scandal (ERE‘s).
According to the regional audit office, The CEA (employers confederation), two national trade unions and the FAFFE (Andalusian trust for employment and training funds) all received sizable grants between 2009 and 2010 with hardly any oversight.
How much lack of control? According to the Audit Office something like 89% of all grants handed over lacked oversight during 2009 alone. In other words, huge amounts of public funds were handed over for training course without checking to see if the courses ever even took place.
If we want to talk in euros, then we’re talking about 746-million euros in 2009. When you compare this to the ERE‘s scandal, with public funds being syphoned off over ten years, the sum is actually inferior: 721-million euros.
