Trade Unions Under Fire

It’s not only the political parties that are wading in the detritus of their own corrupt ways, but also allegedly members of the Royal Family and… the Trade unions in Andalucia.

The UGT (Union General de Trabajadores) has been ordered by the Junta de Andalucía to hand back 1.8m euros in aid after it became known that the regional branch of this national workers union had been pocketing what they should not. Bascially they had presented fictitious bills to justify government aid whereas the money was being spent elsewhere to where it was intended.

The UGT had received a total of 17m from the Junta and at least 1.8m euros of that went on partying, gifts, and slap-up meals and not on employment courses for the unemployed as the mickey-mouse bills proclaimed.

The false-bills scandal has caused the regional chairman to resign to be replaced by take-no-prisoners, Carmen Castilla with a promise of getting the broom out to clear embarrassing cobwebs in the union.
