Reports from Australia state that twelve children were taken from their rural family home, to a place of safety, after it was discovered that they had been subject to sexual abuse, including incest and were living in appalling conditions.
The family have been given the pseudonym ‘Colt’ to protect the children. The children were seized by the New South Wales court back in July 2012 with much of the detail only now coming to light.
Eleven of the twelve children taken away had parents who were related and all showed signs of poor health, deformities and neglect. Almost all were educationally subnormal. The parents themselves denied the children were the result of incest, and continued in their denials, even after being presented with the genetic test evidence to prove otherwise.
The children lived in deplorable conditions, with just tents and a garden shed for shelter, accommodating the whole group of 40 people. All the girls removed from the site said they had been engaging in sexual acts with their uncles, nephews and brothers. However, this group lived just on the edges of society… not in some mountain retreat, with locals from the nearby town who knew of the group saying that they had reported them to the authorities on several occasions, only to be knocked back and allegedly nothing done.
Courtroom documents stated that: ‘The stove was very dirty. The refrigerator contained rotten vegetables and very few items. A young kangaroo was sleeping on one of the children’s beds.’
Reports showed that almost all the children had no idea how to clean their teeth, use a toilet or even toilet paper and as a result they were mostly all suffering from skin diseases and tooth decay.
