Bicycle Parade in Salobreña

Last Sunday, the 22nd of September saw a large group of cyclists participating in the La Ciudad, Sin Mi Coche campaign.

The 50-or-so participants set off from the Tourist Information Office and toured around town, including the beach-front road. Amongst those taking part were entire families with parents and children all mounted on their bikes and peddling together.

The campaign is designed to heighten awareness about the unnecessary use of cars within town, as much from a public-health angle, as from a purely environmental one, as well as promoting the use of public transport, bicycles and Shanks’s pony (walking).

Coinciding with the bicycle parade, the Councillor for the Environment announced that the new bike stands, ceded by the Provincial Board, have been set in place in the Polideportivo Municipal – there was a bit of a political tussle a couple of weeks back about their still not having been erected despite being in the possession of the Town Hall for quite some time.
