A road accident occurred last night (Sunday 25th) on the A-7 autovia, just above Almuñécar, when a minibus left the road. Five of the nine occupants were injured, three of whom seriously
According to the emergency services, the accident took place at 13.00h near kilometre point 314, where the driver crashed into the barrier at the end of the autovia; the driver didn’t realize until it was too late, it appears. Family members say that they had been on the road for a long time so it is possible that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, but this has not been confirmed.
This Moroccan family was returning from holiday in that country and on the way to Larche via Berja (Almería). Four of the occupants were children. According to the fire service, none of the children, aged between three and six, suffered serious injuries.
Police, fire (the first to arrive) and ambulance units were sent to the scene of the accident, as well as an emergency helicopter. A 47-year-old woman, in a state of coma, was flown first to Motril and then to Granada. The other less seriously injured passengers were taken by ambulance to Motril.
