Work on Avenida Andalucia in Motril

The Vice-Mayor of Motril, Nicolás Navarro, who is in charge of the Infrastructure Department, announced coming roadworks in the town centre.

Controversially, however, the Town Hall is going to use funds set aside for rural areas (Plan de Fomento de Empleo), In other words, funds that should be used to create employment in the rural surroundings of the town, rather than in the centre of it. Some consider that projects out of sight do not garnish so many votes.

Anyway, the project involving this avenue, which connects the main roundabout at the end of Avenida de Salobreña with Calle Nueva, intends to widen the sidewalk or pedestrian pavement, using a budget of 250,000 euros. The Town Hall considers that it will create a “modern thoroughfare,” more pedestrian friendly, “embellished by green areas.”

The said green areas will be a garden area running between the road and the pavement. So we are talking about a narrower channel for wheeled transport.

The Town Hall says that the project will create ten supervisory jobs and 320 labourer jobs during the next six months.

No starting date was given nor an explanation as to how it will affect the circulation of vehicles through this busy main thoroughfare.

Good luck on that one, Folks…
