Motril has just launched an awareness campaign, entitled, Don’t Turn Your Back on the Problem, to tackle the issue of dog droppings.
The Chairmen of municipal cleaning company (LIMDECO), José García Fuentes, together with various Town Hall councillors, were all present at the campaign’s public launching.
In reality, this is a relaunching of a campaign that came into being a couple of years ago, admitted, Councillor García Fuentes, but explained that the design of the project had been improved.
The Councillor for Education, Elena Vallejo, for example that they would be carrying out drawing competitions in the local school on the subject – the mind boggles at what kind of schoolchildren drawings the subject will produce, mind.
Several parts of Motril will be adorned with posters (see photo), as well.
the Councillor for Citizen Safety, Manuel Ballesteros, promised that dog owners that do not retrieve their pet’s excrement will be fined up to 300 euros and up to 500 for not having your pet’s paperwork up to scratch; i.e., it doesn’t have a microchip or its obligatory vaccinations.
And as a parting point for reflection, Motril has 2,000 registered dogs who are calculated to collectively produce 5.500 kilos of excrement a day. These are official figures but one can only wonder at how they come up with that the average dog produces of two kilos of crap a day is anybody’s guess.
