Almuñécar has opened up temporary parking in the P-4, just behind the Las Góndolas buildings – this is the building plot for the proposed law courts.
The Asociación de Alcohólicos Rehabilitados de Almuñécar (ARDA) and the Asociación de Prevención y Ayuda al Toxicómano (APAT) have been handed over control of this summer-parking area on the P-4, i.e., the parking fees will go towards their social causes.
And with the underground car park beneath the municipal market still closed, they’re going to be needed. Apart from the subterranean parking facilities on Velilla, San Cristóbal and Avenida Don Juan Carlos, the town also counts on the Plaza Blas Infante, where the Friday Market is held.
Of course, we will lose that particular area – the biggest parking plot in town – because of the summer fair, not only for the week of the fiesta, but also the week before whilst the casetas and fair attractions are being set up.
Aware, without a doubt, that the continued closure of the municipal market is very controversial, the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, has announced that the blue zones along Calle Guadix (from the top near Radiovision as far down as Calle Juan de la Cierva) Avenida Europa, Callejón del Virgo, Avenida de Cala and Plaza Kuwait will have a special reduced price from Monday to Saturday; 20 cents will now buy you 45 minutes instead of only 15.
Editorial Note: It is mind boggling that Almuñécar will lose its biggest parking area for two whole weeks during August because of the fair and the caseta bars, especially when you take into account that these temporary bars on Blas Infante belong to different political parties, as well as Semana Santa brotherhoods.
It is a slap in the face to all the bar and restaurant owners who struggle all year round to have to watch while these temporary bars skim off the summer trade.
