Online Interactive Help for Diabetics

Andalucía is leading a European project that hopes to develop an online monitoring system for diabetics, with the object of improving their quality of life.

The Delegate for Health and Social Welfare for the Junta de Andalucia, Higinio Almagro presented the project, which is called, Palante and is co-financed by the European Commission.

Here in Andalucía the project will enable diabetics to access and update their medical records with new data concerning their blood pressure, glucose level and body mass (calculated on a weight/height basis).

Diabetes Mellitus, which affects around 15% of the population, can cause other serious health problems, resulting in amputations and kidney complications, as well as heart disease.

Palante is part of the Clic Salud system, which requires that users have an electronic signature, obtainable from CERES. Once this is obtained, you will be able to access your entire medical records online. Parlante not only lets you access information, but also allows you to update data from results obtained via tests carried out at home.

So far, a total of 7,000 people from the eight Andalusian provinces will participate.
