Chris Markun is a man on a mission; a cycling one, and not to win a prize, but to heighten awareness of Endometriosis, which is a gynecological medical condition that has no cure but can be managed. Chris’s wife suffers from this illness and has undergone three operations.
In his own words: “For women who are diagnosed – and it is often misdiagnosed – it is a battle both mentally and physically. I cannot imagine how hard it would be for women who are single to cope with this.”
His journey, which is entirely unsupported, will take him from Trafalgar Square in London to Albuñol on the Costa Tropical but via a very roundabout route. His route takes him through Paris, Luxembourg, Berlin, Munich, Innsbruck, Milan, Monte Carlo, Valencia and down to the south Coast of Spain; he planned this route to taken in three large mountain ranges (The Alps, Pyrenees and Alpujarra).
You would be wrong to think that Chris is a hardened cyclist and an ardent member of a cycling club, because he has never belonged to one and has never covered 60 miles on a bike before… and now he is averaging 100+ km a day.
So where is he now? Well he’s in Spain and the last time that I looked on his facebook, he was near Tarragona.
As for the expenses of this enduring trip, he is funding it out of his own pocket so that every penny donated (you can donate at www.justgiving.com) will go to the cause.
You deserve all the support you can get, Chris – enhorabuena
