The Guardia Civil intercepted a pleasure craft off Almuñécar’s Velilla beach with 300 kilos of hashish on board. The 2-man crew was arrested.
The two men, aged 36 and 31, are Spaniards and both from Málaga. One of them has been arrested before for drug running.
This police action is part of Plan Telos, which is a police operation that came into being at the beginning of the year to heighten land, sea and air vigilance over the North African drug route.
The actual interception took place six nautical miles off the said beach, thanks to aa patrol ship’s radar which detected the boat just past midnight, yesterday, on a heading to make landfall. The Guardia Civil boarded the Marsur Coral 600, and questioned the men on where they had come from and where they were heading but the answers were not convincing enough for the briny branch of the Green Meanies. A quick search came up with a hidden storage space under the lower deck.
The ship was escorted to Motril Port where the Policía Judicial branch of the Almuñécar Guardia Civil took charge. Both men were brought before a Justice of the Peace in Almuñécar, who ordered their immediate detention in the provincial prison of Albolote.
