Prison officer, Miguel Ángel H.P. has been sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment for sexually abusing four female prisoners. The incidents took place in the Soto del Real Prison in Madrid.
The judge considered that the man took advantage of his position and his freedom of movement within the prison to “satisfy his libidinous desires.”
According to the established facts, the prison officer promised penitentiary privileges in exchange for sexual favours and if this was rejected he used threats of having them transferred to another (worse) prison or make the lives of family members, also in prison there, more difficult for them.
If both these ploys failed, he would corner them when they were alone in the kitchen or clothes-making workshops to carry out groping attacks or worse.
Once the condemned man found out that several female inmates had reported him, he tried coercing them to withdraw their accusations, promising them that “they would be sorry” if they did not.
The defence lawyer tried to put forward that it was all made up by the inmates to take revenge after the prison officer had confiscated some of their possession in the prison computer room.
Of the 25 years handed down, he must serve a minimum of 20 years and pay a total of 23,000 euros in compensation to his victims.
Well, that is one prison warden who will be ‘very popular’ on the wrong side of the prison bars…
