The Nerja Town Council has voted in favour of a project to restore Chanquete‘s boat, from the 80’s TV series, Verano Azul.

This small fishing boat, which is not the original used in the series, is located in the Parque Verano Azul and will have 36.309 euros spent on making it ‘shipshape,’ changing part of the deck, amongst other tasks, including the superstructure in general.

Restoration work was to begin a couple of months ago but it was found that the fishing boat was in much greater disrepair than was originally thought.

Below deck there are also some problems to be sorted out, before the boat is sanded down and completely repainted.

Councillor Nieves Atencia, announced that they would be getting in contact with Televisión Española, who produced this very popular series, to see if they will collaborate in the restoration costs, seeing as the Barco de Chanquete is a ‘symbol’ of the TV channel and, of course, the TV series itself.
