Rubbish!

The Almuñécar Councillor for the Environment has been running a campaign to inform locals about how and when to put their rubbish bins out. The reason being that many block communities have not been following the municipal regulations that cover this.

Article 84 of the Ordenanzas Municipales de Limpieza, establishes that bins and hoppers can only grace our streets between 20.00h and 08.00h the next morning. After that they must be whisked from sight and stored somewhere suitable.

Should anybody be so foolish to leave their rubbish containers out on the streets after that time, from Monday 15th of April, they will be sold into slavery and work down the salt mines for the rest of their miserable lives. Failing that, they will be fined an undisclosed amount and have their offending bin confiscated… brutally.

The said Councillor, Luis Aragón, says that this clampdown on “lax bin exposure” is being done to improve the general aesthetics of the town and to make the lives of wanton rubbish bins a misery.

For those of us that march out a rubbish bag, leaving it on the nearest corner, we are reminded that it must be done between 20.00h and 23.00h and that junk (old furniture etc) must be put out for collection on a Thursday night from 21.00h onwards.

Those of you who wish to use this service, must phone the Town Hall on 958 838 600 and tell them what and where you intend to leave your unwanted junk items. If you don’t fancy mumbling in Spanish with a thoroughly uninterested clerk, you can do it by Internet: www.lineaverdealmunecar.com.
