The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has confirmed that the medical centre will have a lift installed. He made the pledge after having met with the Managing Director of the Regional Hospital for Axarquia, José Pinazo.
Sr Pinazo assured the Mayor that the Junta de Andalucía was finally going to give the go ahead for the installation of the lift in the medical centre, which has been a long-time demand. The Mayor says that he his is grateful and that it is a case of “better late than never.”
The Mayor said that the drawing up of the project for the lift is “in its final phase,” and that as soon as it was ready, a municipal building licence would be issued for work to commence.
At the meeting the Mayor transmitted his willingness to collaborate fully with the Regional Health Board in all affairs that they should consider “opportune, convenient and necessary.” He told Sr. Pinazo, for example, that he was well disposed to provide a building for a possible transfer of services from the medical centre; rehabilitation, for example
The new medical-centre project was raised at the meeting – hardly a surprise. The Health Board has drawn up a Programa Funcional, which must be used as the basis for a ‘road map’ to getting the project through. The Mayor assures that according to a report by the municipal Urban Planning Department, the plot of land earmarked by the Town Hall is more than sufficient for the planned medical centre.
The Mayor is positive about the way things are going in this respect: “We are advancing in the right direction because there are two administrative bodies that coincide in the necessity of developing health policies to benefit Nerjeños,” he said.
