Salobreña Taxi Controversy

A big controversy is emerging in Salobreña concerning taxi fares, mainly affecting foreigners.

Since Salobreña is not a big town it is not compulsory to have a counter or taximeter and drivers have been charging different rates for the same journey, ie, depending on which cab you took you could be charged from 90 to 140€ for a trip to Málaga Airport.

The fare was up to the driver, no regulation at all. So you had to be very careful when picking one taxi or another. Following this controversy Mayor Gonzalo has met with the drivers to urge them to unify fares and to set a visible price list both inside the cars and on the taxi stop.

Have you been affected by this non-regulated fares?

Does it happens in other towns?
