The problem with flooding at the Nerja Colegio San Miguel could have its days numbered if the Junta de Andalucía includes the school within the OLA, as requested by the Town Hall.
The OLA is the Plan de Oportunidades Laborales en Andalucía which is aimed at giving the unemployed, especially in the building sector, a spot of work by carrying out renovation work etc on the network of public schools within Andalucía.
The request, which was presented before the Regional Board of Education, aims at rectifying the defects that are causing flooding in the building when there are heavy rains. The School Head asked the Town Hall to inspect the installations and produce a report on what is wrong and what needs doing to rectify it – the inspection has been carried out and the said report drawn up.
One of the problems is that the main drain simply can’t handle heavy rainfall, which is causing residual waste (sewage) to appear.
As this problem cannot be solved with normal maintenance work, it falls within the responsibility of the Regional Educational Board.
