Up in the old town of Almuñécar, near the old town walls along Calle San Crescencio, there is a municipally owned pottery workshop which the Town Hall is keen to promote. For this reason, the Department for Culture under Councillor Olga Ruano has signed an accord with master potter, Amalia García del Moral, to do precisely that.
Amalia García del Moral explained that the main objective is to give training courses to those that are interested in learning the art of pottery/ceramics. The courses themselves will cover the history of pottery, how to use the potter’s wheel, varnishing and other aspects of the trade.
Amalia has been at the municipal pottery since 2009 and has maintained its doors open to the general public from 10.00am to 13.00h and besides showing people around, also sells products made there.
It would be well worth a visit, being one of those forgotten but very interesting corners of Almuñécar.
