The Councillor for Residents at the Nerja Town Hall, Inocencia Quintero, would like to remind foreigners who reside in the municipality about the advantages of renewing their empadronamiento.
Foreign residents that have been on the roll for more than two years should renew it. If during the last two years there circumstances have altered; a change of address or a new passport number, this change should be included.
Those residents that do not renew their empadronamiento will receive a letter, informing them that they have been removed from the register.
Sr Quintero also points out how important it is for the town that residents do register, as it affects the amount of funds that the town receives from the Central Government, which obviously affects municipal funding for projects to improve the town.
Furthermore, if you are on the register, you can obtain discounts on certain municipal services, as well as being able to send your children to Spanish state schools and vote in the municipal and European elections.
All those interested in renewing their empadronmiento or registering for the first time, should visit the Departamento de Extranjeros del Ayuntamiento, on the ground floor with their NIE and passport (photocopies are accepted) on Monday or Thursdays mornings between 10:00h and 14:00h. You can also use the Ventanilla Única on the ground floor on any other day of the working week.
