Underhand Undertaker

It can be a very tricky moment, when you have split up with your fiancé and you want the expensive ring back. It becomes even more difficult when you want that ring back and your fiancé is dead. So, when a Nebraska man was faced with this very situation, of course, he was very mature and sensible about the whole thing. He just pretended to be an undertaker and tried to steal the ring.

According to police, Terry Kurtzhals, a 58-year-old from Nebraska, USA, arrived at the Wadlow Rozanke Funeral Home wearing a funeral director name tag. He explained to staff that he represented the family of a deceased woman called Jessica Johnson, 34, who had died on November 20th.

Kurtzhals then allegedly asked the proprietor of the home for the two engagement rings from the deceased’s hand, but the owner, Mr. Rozanek, said he started to suspect Kurtzhals was suspect when he couldn’t answer basic ‘undertaker questions.’ Keeping Kurtzhals waiting in reception, he alerted a member of his staff to ring the police.

Strangely, Kurtzhals was, some years ago, a funeral director, but lost his licence in 1996 for mishandling clients’ money, for which he ended up in prison. On this occasion, he was taken into custody and charged with impersonating a funeral director and illegal voting (he was recently released from prison, and then voted in the recent elections, but Nebraska state law dictates that a prisoner may not vote for two years after their release).

If any ladies out there like the sound of this man… why not give him a ring?
