Off to Germany now, Saarland to be exact, where a driver was pulled over for speeding. Just a routine stop for the traffic cops. However, they were just a little shocked at what they found inside the vehicle.
The vehicle, it should be pointed out, is a Ford station wagon, and police found that it had a complete office rigged up on the front passenger seat. So, whilst writing out his ticket for doing 130 kph in a 100-kph zone, the police had a quick look through the items on the passenger seat.
Standing on a purpose built wooden frame they found a laptop attached to a docking station, tilted towards the drivers seat for ease of use, a printer, router, WLAN antenna, and a power unit. The array was topped off with a mobile phone mounted on the windscreen next to the navigation system.
However, the police had not seen the driver using any of the devices and therefore there is no evidence that he uses any of the items whilst the vehicle is moving, so he was just give the bog-standard, €120, speeding ticket and a stern warning about driving with unsecured items in his vehicle.
Talking of insecure loads, Martin did have the entire office set up in his Suzuki 4×4. The entire office being his mobile phone, which he placed on the top of the dashboard… until he took a left-hand bend that is, at which point the phone slid along the dash and straight out of the window. Incredibly, on his return to the launch site, the phone was retrieved and still worked! They don’t make ‘em like that any more.
