Salobreña School Lock In

Almost 100 Pupils and five teachers from the secondary school in Salobreña staged an all-night sit-in at the school before setting off the next day to join the protest march in the city of Granada, joining up with the university students. The parents association supported this initiative.

A Juventudes Socialistas spokesperson said, “We support and defend public education and equal opportunities, which is why we reject the massive cuts imposed by the conservative government. As a consequence of these cuts numerous students have not been able to attend university courses because of the increased fees and the more stringent condition to obtain university grants.”

The Secretary General of the JSA-Salobreña, Manuel Guirado, said that they also rejected the new Educational System, which in his opinion, pushes back students’ rights and is leading back to where education was a luxury and not a right.
