New Grass for the Municipal Stadium

The Almuñécar sports stadium, Francisco Bonet, will have new grass laid around the beginning of November, if things go to plan.

Councillor for Sports… and Environment, Luis Aragón, announced, “Right now they’re taking off the old contaminated turf. After that the surface will be rolled flat and the irrigation system laid. Then a new layer of earth will be laid and the grass sown.” In the meantime, testing will be carried out to check that the ground has adequate drainage.

The councillor explained that the decision to change the turf was taken before summer because it was in a lamentable state thanks to bad maintenance that allowed puddles to form on its surface.

“We took advantage of the stadium for several events during the summer, however the 4×4 event people did not remove the earth and stones as agreed, which has lead to administrative action. However, this has held up the laying of the new grass; it was hoped that it would have been ready for December but it now appears that it will be later,” he explained.

The company that has the contract is Tenicésped, who is working with a budget of 45,000 euros. The task will be considered complete after the first mowing – more or less in January or February.

“Nevertheless,” pointed out the Sr. Aragón, “the most important thing will be the correct future maintenance to avoid puddles forming, which has been the case up until now.”
