The Almuñécar branch of the PSOE has called upon the Central Government to dedicate funds to the completion of the Almuñécar-Salobreña section of the A-7.
Local party Spokesman, Francisco Prados warns that in the appropriate section of the 2013 budget no funds are allotted to this much-needed part of the coastal autovía. A motion to this end was put forward by the PSOE at the last Plenary Meeting of the Municipal Council, which was unanimously approved.
Sr. Prados emphasised that the A-7 is essential infrastructure for the Costa Tropical, and as such he considers that the conservative Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, should dispel doubts over what is happening with it and make a firm commitment to bringing the work to a successful conclusion. He has also highlighted the lack of activity on the said section, which he considers reflects the lack of willingness of the Central Government to finish it.
Finally, he considers that the Central Governments decision to deny funding until 2016 is a selfish or party-centred strategy to delay the opening until just before the Municipal Elections in that year.
Editorial Note: The work on the Taramay-Lobres (connection Almuñécar to Salobreña) is indeed well advanced and there appears to be no reason that it should not be finished by summer 2013, avoiding yet another summer overload of the tired N-340. It is highly suspicious, therefore, that it is not ‘envisaged’ by the Central Government to conclude before at least two years later.
