Eternal Flame Chef

A student was lucky to escape with just a 3-year, suspended prison sentence after frying eggs over the eternal flame burning at the World War Two memorial in Kiev.

The 21-year-old, Hanna Sinkova, is a member of the radical youth organization, ‘The Brotherhood of St. Lucas’ and said her actions were in order to draw attention to and protest against government policies concerning war veterans in destitution. The court didn’t quite see it that way and found her guilty of desecrating The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The young student is a very committed young lady and is challenging the sentence, saying that her symbolic cooking protest was aimed at demonstrating that very soon, veterans would be lining up to use the flame, as they would have no homes, or anything to cook on.

For their part, the prosecutors are also challenging the sentence, saying they want her locked up, rather than suspending the sentence.

Brave, radical and focused… move over ‘Pussy Riot.’
