Let’s face it; we’ve heard so many times that the coastal autovia will be finished by such-and-such time that it is hard to take these governmental press releases seriously, but here goes anyway: la autovía de la Costa llegará por fin desde Motril hasta Málaga el próximo verano; i.e., by next summer you will be able to drive from Taramay to the where the A-44 reaches the coasts without leaving the A-7.
The Central Government announced that it is working against the clock to finish the eight kilometres of autovia that separate the Taramay junction from the Lobres one, together with the three kilometres between Lobres and the El Guadalfeo junction within one year.
Now that might sound like ‘pulling out all the stops,’ but when you consider that the latter is virtually complete, barring decorative vegetation, road signs, etc, and that the most complicated part of the Taramay sections – the twin tunnels – have long since been bored and that the Taramay bridge is nearing completion… why do they need twelve whole months? Just saying…
Taking into account that since the PP has been in power in Madrid any response to questions concerning the completion of the said roadworks has been a nebulous and non-committal ‘soon,’ this comes as a refreshing change. One wonders whether this change of ‘informative strategy’ has more to do with the tremendous erosion inflicted on the party since taking power, than an economic impulse to the speed of the construction project.
As said before, this is far from the first time that we have been fed, “open before summer,” so forgive us at the Seaside Gazette if we don’t break out the party hats and farting cushions just yet…
