Retractable Post to Restrict Access

The final touches to the new look of the Cuesta de la Iglesia, in Almuñécar are close to hand. The metal planters, sporting trees/bushes and flowers are in place, but the last item might not please everybody; an automatic traffic barrier; or better said, a retractable post.

It’s not the first time that the road that runs from the Casa de la Cultura to the Town Hall Square has had this sort of barrier; there was one about ten years ago, which was operated by a key that you had to obtain from the priest, but after a bit of artful sabotage, it stopped working, and that was the end of that.

The new system can be lowered by a mobile phone call. Anybody that is authorised to go down there; people who have garages in the area, for example, will have a code installed on their phones so that when they call a certain number, the post retracts and they can drive through.
As for deliveries and construction workers, the former can pass between 15.00h and 17,00h whilst the latter can do it from 08.00h to 10,00h.
Anyway, let’s see how long it lasts, eh?
