Motorbike Scrambling Almuñécar

The first trials of the Campeonato de Andalucía de Motocross were held on the 10th of June in Taramay, Almuñécar on a specially built circuit beneath Hotel Playacálida on the Playa Cabria side.

Alejandro Franco Suárez, member of the Moto Club Camacho y Cervilla, was the winner of the I Campeonato de Andalucía, Ciudad de Almuñécar, in the MX2 category having won both laps.

Second place in the same category was won by Manuel Beltrán Garrido, belonging to Moto Club Escudería, and the third-place on the podium was won by Heriberto Cruz
Vázquez, (Club Deportivo, El Pinchazo)

The regional-level event hadn’t been held in the province for the last 20 years, but thanks to an agreement struck between the Federación Andaluza de Motociclismo (Famotos) and the local Motoclub, Patronato Municipal de Deporte Sunday’s scrambling event put Granada back on the motorcycle sports map.

One of the problems solved in order to hold it here was the specifications needed for the track, which has to be 1,260 metres in length. The competition comprised of four categories: Pre-Juniors 65cc for riders between the ages of seven and twelve; Promising 85cc for up to 14-year olds, Juniors for up to 23-year olds and Amateur Junior, which is an open category.

According to the Chairman of Motoclub MX, around 50 riders participated, three of whom were from Almuñécar.
