Every Cloud A Silver Lining

(Málaga province) A man has been awarded 24,000 euros in compensation for having to wait nine years for his court case to come up, in which he was acquitted.

The judge considered that the man had suffered daños y prejuicios (damages) both personally and to his family, fruit of the protracted wait for the case to be heard.

The court considered that the resulting stress pushed the man into alcohol addiction and caused his youngest son to develop psychological problems.
The man, who had been charged with an ‘act of aggression’ involving two other men, but finally acquitted, was originally offered 2,000 euros in compensation in 2009 by the Ministry of Justice, but a national-level court increased the sum to 24,000 euros.
