The Mayoress of Almunecar

The investiture plenary meeting of the Almunecar town council has just concluded, with Trinidad Herrera receiving the necessary eleven votes to obtain the absolute majority to become Almunecar’s first Mayoress in its 2,500 years of history.

The PP received one of the four PSOE votes, as was expected. Nobody knows which of the PSOE councillors voted in favour of the PP candidate, nor is it important – the local branch had received the go-ahead from the provincial headquarters to provide the necessary vote.

The now ex-Mayor, Benavides immediately took a back seat amongst his party colleagues upon Trinidad occupying his seat on the stage in the Casa de la Cultura.

The hall was absolutely packed and the Local Police were present in force, in case of any disturbance. The only ‘unruly’ moment during the whole session was when the PA leader stood to drop his vote into the urn – an angry comment was shouted from amongst the audience, which was not exactly a compliment – amongst Benavides followers, he is a Judas.

More information will be posted tomorrow.
