Property Tax Overturned

The Supreme Court of Andalucía has declared as null and void the municipal council meeting that approved the rise in the IBI (property rates).

On the 29th of December 2009 the Town Council passed the controversial IBI rates on second homes; i.e., a higher rate for non-residents, which came into effect during 2010.

The problem is that the money has already been collected, so it will have to be given back. According to the new Mayor (he made this comment before the elections) the Town Hall would have to give up approximately 1,250,000 euros, which is equivalent to 60% of what is normally taken in the form of IBI.

Now, whether the said gentleman, firmly sat in the Mayor’s office from the 11th on, still is of the same opinion is anybody’s guess.
