Smuggling Yacht Trial

And talking of Narco Nabbing… the case of a yacht, skippered by a Swiss, 67-year-old man and crewed by a younger Italian companion, which was caught carrying drugs, is coming up shortly.

The 15-metre-long yacht, sailing under the British flag, bearing the name of Wi Wi, was intercepted just off the Torrenueva light house with over a tonne of hashish onboard, according to the police authorities. The street value of the drugs was valued at 1.7m euros.

The arrest was made in March last year and the two foreign nationals have been in Spanish prison since then, awaiting trial. They are accused of drug smuggling, money laundering and forgery of official documents.

The Public Prosecutor is leaning heavily on the fact that the older man hadn’t worked for years and had no visible means of income, but this didn’t stop him from purchasing the yacht outright for 270,000 in cash, bless him. Also, a thorough search of the craft turned up forged ID and other documents – and not of very good quality, either.
