The Junta and an Eye

The Junta de Andalucia has been sentenced to pay 131,000 euro in compensation to the family of a 6-year-old schoolboy who lost an eye at school.

The incident that resulted in the injury took place at a school in Ecija (Sevilla) when the lad pocked his head through a hole in a brick wall. His mates then proceeded to poke one of his eyes out, naturally.
The Supreme Court considered that a teacher should have noticed the hole in the wall and done something about it: i.e. prevented his/her charges from approaching the tempting hole in the wall.

The Regional Supreme Court had already decided against holding the Town Hall of Ecija and the Educational Authorities responsible in 2008, but the parents then appealed before the highest court in the land.
