Frac Nabbed

A frac is the Spanish word for a coat with tails, as in ‘top hat and tails.’ It is also used to describe a debt collector, thanks to the uniform they use; an undertaker’s attire of yesteryear.

If, for example, you have a shop and owe money to your suppliers, they might hire a frac to stand outside your shop – that’s all he does, but it is enough to announce to every passer by that you are a debtor.

Anyway, this is an article about a frac who went a little further – he kept the money he collected for himself, instead of handing it over to the person who hired him. His case is up before the judge now, with the Provincial Public Prosecutor recommending a 4-year prison sentence.

According to documents related to the case, the alleged incidents took place between November 2005 and May 2007 when A.L.M., as Head of Collections, allegedly pocketed 12,600 euro, either by falsifying payment slips to lesser amounts than received and keeping the difference or quite simply pocketing the entire payment!
