Crop Damage

Spare a thought for the farmers here on the coast who have been hit mighty hard by the continuous heavy rains and who say they are having the worst year of their lives.
Many of us living here have seen the damage caused to roads, embankments, walls and our own properties through the winter months. The agriculturists have been losing their crops of cherry tomatoes and cucumbers; a loss reportedly of between 30% to 80%. Greenhouse owners have been working around the clock making repairs to the damage caused by the rains but the absence of sun has also taken its toll on their crops. Having been hit with two previously cold winters and low prices, the farmers are now seeking assistance from higher authorities as they battle to keep what little crops are left to fill the orders they have taken.
