The stretch of motorway between Lobres and Taramay that will eventually link Salobreña and Almuñécar has been given a finish date of… wait for it… 2012. So if you thought the other motorway segments were a little far behind schedule, then this one really takes the biscuit.
The main hold-up has been down to design difficulties, with all the various tunnels and obstacles the road will have to navigate. But with a definite plan now in place, it’s all ‘guns a blazing’ and construction teams are out working their socks off to meet the new deadline.
The stretch of motorway will span 7.79 kilometres and feature two tunnels, one of which being an impressive two kilometres long. Also featured in the new plan is a diamond-shaped junction with a central roundabout joining the motorway with the connecting roads to Molvízar, Lobres and Ítrabo, and an expansion of the bridge crossing the River Guadalfeo. Big plans, big bucks and big long way still to go.
