Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum! Better make that a bottle of Ron Montero, our local brew that recently received international acclaim from the Institute of Taste and Quality (iTQi) in Brussels. Between 40 and 60 professional chefs and sommeliers gather once a year to evaluate the quality of various products, and they gave our local tipple an impressive 85% for taste, 86% for smell and 92% for appearance.
The story of Ron Montero dates back to 1963, when Francisco Montero Martin founded the family business and started producing rum from local sugar-cane produce.
Interestingly enough, though, due to peculiarities on the part of its founder, this quality rum has only recently been made available outside of the Granada province. They now push sales of over 240,000 a year.
So if you’re a fan of the loopy-juice, (rum is apparently the alcohol that causes the most crazy reactions in the brain) you can now visit the newly remodelled bodega that has just been opened to the public and learn the secrets of rum production first hand.
