New Art Museum for Motril

Exciting new plans are underway to transform the old palace building, Casa de Ruiz, into the future art museum of Motril. Built in the 17th and 18th centuries, the Casa is located in the oldest part of the city near the municipal market.
The Council have dedicated 653,000 euros to the project that forms part of the Strategic Plan for Cultural Infrastructure.
They estimate that the project will take 18 months to complete and hope to get started straight after the summer. The building has three floors totalling 668 sq/m, and will house both temporary and permanent exhibitions.
The palace house was built by the Ruiz-de-Castro family and featured a central patio held up by black marble columns and a once beautiful white marble staircase leading up the first floor. The original façade was built in a neoclassical style, with grey stone and balconies with touches of traditional Granada architecture.
