It’s those darned blue lines causing trouble again. Both La Herradura and Almuñécar have had issues with the parking system recently introduced throughout towns in the province, and now it is Motril’s turna again.
In April, the Council decorated twelve streets in town with the blue paint and parking meters to try and help solve the parking problems and keep things moving. Unfortunately, not everybody was happy with their choice of streets, especially neighbours of Las Explanadas. They insist that the Carretera del Puerto is far too dangerous a street to encourage parking there.
Before the blue lines appeared, those who dared park along the street, that does not have pavements, did so at their own risk. Now with official parking in place not only are people encouraged to park here but they also have to cross the dangerous road, without the aid of zebra crossings, to buy a ticket from the machines on the opposite side. A system however that the neighbours have been doing routinely for some time, only now they have to pay. Even the discounted tariffs offered to the residents haven’t been successful in placating the angry mob. Some have even gone so far as to suggest that the blue lines are illegal, invading areas that should be converted into pavement.
Also suffering blue-zone trauma are the neighbours of Calle Enrique Martin Cuevas, who are angry at being charged to park in their regular spots. They would argue that the blue lines placed outside of commercial areas are completely unjustified and call for a rethink.
So readers, I put it to you, if you’ve also been affected by blue zone parking in your area then I’d love to hear from you with your reasons as to why you think it has either changed things for the good or bad, please email me at louise@seasidegazette.es or post your comments on our online edition: www.seasidegazette.es.
