A Mounted Rumpus

GRA Horse in BarWhat do you do with a man who rides into a bar in Motril on his horse and starts a fight? Well, the Policía Nacional knew the answer, which was to arrest him.

In fact, they arrested two men and a woman, aged 30, 31 and 51, in that order – apparently the horse wasn’t arrested but they probably gave it a stiff warning.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves… when the police finally arrived at the bar, the individual interrupted his mounted tirade of curses, oaths and invectives against everybody in the bar to direct them instead at the policemen before galloping out of the bar and through the centre of Motril.

The police called for reinforcements and several moments later cornered the rider, who instead of surrendering, caused the horse to rear up and flail at the policemen with its hooves. Unfortunately for the rider, he was unable to stay in the saddle in this position and fell to the ground.

But it was far from over because the rider called upon family and friends who had gathered around, to prevent his arrest, which they attempted to do.

The incident came to an end with three arrests and five policemen injured, one of whom had been bitten on the arm, although it is not clear who had bitten him: the rider, the horse, one of the rescue team or an over-excited police colleague.
