Farmers Abandon Town Hall Protest

A group of Almuñécar farmers staged a sit-in within the Town Hall in protest over a lack of support following massive crop losses. The sit in, which lasted two days, received much support locally, both from political parties as well as locals.

Fruit Crate Snatchers Nabbed

About a month ago we ran an article on how tens of thousands of plastic fruit crates had disappeared from outside plastic greenhouses – the mystery has been solved. Five people have been arrested over the robbery of over 40,000 fruit crates.

You Get What You Deserve?

The Granada, provincial branch of the Ecologistas en Acción have sent in a report (denuncia) to the Environment and Public Works Department of the Junta de Andalucía over what they qualify as a ‘tremendous amount of illegal earth shifting’ that is could well adversely effect the barranco de la Vizcarra, up above Calahonda (Karst area). It was precisely storm water from this barranco (gully) that caused the flooding in the village several months ago.

Costas vs. Greenhouses

If you drive along the eastern coast of the Costa Tropical, between Carchuna and La Rábita, you will see greenhouses below the N-340, virtually on the beach or on a cliff – at the moment there is a battle between Costas and their owners over their future… or lack of it.

Crop Damage

Spare a thought for the farmers here on the coast who have been hit mighty hard by the continuous heavy rains and who say they are having the worst year of their lives.
