Jelly Bandits

Protección Civil for Almuñécar/Herradura has issued its figures for July, concerning First Aid on the at its four beach posts: La Herradura, San Cristóbal, Puerta del Mar and Velilla beaches. Jelly-fish stings are up, which is hardly surprising as there are more people around to be stung, so to speak.

La Herradura Puppet Festival

The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya has announced the upcoming XIV Festival de Títeres de La Herradura, which will take place from Thursday the 2nd to Sunday the 5th of August, beginning at 22.00h each night on the Plaza Nueva.

More Firemen

Three more firemen were sworn into the department after the selection process was completed, bringing the Almuñécar, Fire-Service staff up to a total of fifteen.

Noose Protestor Punished

A Guardia Civil policeman that demonstrated in Granada in protest against the spending cuts, using a hangman’s noose, is facing criminal charges. He is charged with causing criminal public disorder.

Fire Station Flounders

Work on the new area (comarcal) fire station in Loja has ground to a halt after the construction company went bust, and it is not the first time that Loja has seen a virtually completed project wallow, dead in the water.

Padul Flagship Sinking

It was around about a year ago that Assyce, a leading company in renewable energy, opened up its new installations in Padul. Local politicians we full of praise, saying that this enterprise heralded a new future for the town… Assyce has since laid off 90% of its staff.

Bye Bye Botellón

First of all, a botellón is a gathering in an open public space to hold a party based on alcohol bought from supermarkets, rather than consuming drinks at pub prices in night bars. Having explained that, the two semi-independent townships of Carchuna and Calahonda have cracked down on this practice.

Punta Access Cleaned Up

Almuñécar Town Hall maintenance staff have been busy cleaning up the main entrance to the Punta de la Mona. The Comunidad de Propetarios pointed out several years ago that it is not their responsibility; hence the Town Hall finally getting round to it.
