Convergencia Andaluza de Almuñécar-La Herradura has requested that the Town Hall does not charge the rent for market-stall hire at the municipal market, corresponding to November, as they consider the Mayor’s decision to close down the parking underneath the market has set them back.
In fact, Juan Carlos Benavides’ party considered that the Town Hall should forego such payments as long as the parking remains closed to the public.
The CA also demands that the building work inside the garage to reinforce the pillars should recommence immediately after 15 months of them being stopped by the Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, they claim.
The Spokeswoman for the party, Eva Gaitán made the following written statement:
The closure of the municipal market parking has created a serious situation for the stall holders. Since its closure, sales at the stalls has diminished considerably through the exclusive fault of the Town Hall.
The prolonging of this situation is pushing many habitual customers from the market to the large supermarkets, provoking irreversible damage.
To alleviate the economic setback experienced by the stall holders we request:
1) The monthly rent payments for stall holders starting from November are waivered until the parking is reopened.
2) Work on the parking, which has been at a standstill for the last 15 months, should recommence immediately.
3) Seeing as the Mayor has stated that the market is at no risk, whatsoever, areas of the parking not affected by building work should be reopened immediately.
