Motril Port’s Speciality

If you regularly travel up the A-44 to Granada, you will probably have seen the lorries bringing down the huge propeller blades for the wind-powered generators on their way to Motril Port.

Finland in Focus

My home country Finland is known for its ‘thousands of lakes,’ the exact number of which is 187,888, its outstanding design and fully paid war reparations to the then Soviet Union after two wars during World War II.

A Hopefully Happy New Year

The Christmas festivities started in unusually warm and sunny weather. We Nordics have had cosy celebrations with glögg parties, meeting friends and enjoying mulled wine and ginger cookies.

100,000 Euro Speeding Fine

A motorist in Finland was recently handed down a fine of 100,000 euros. His offence was no different than mine, but in Finland, you are fined based on your wealth. ‘Saunamania’

The contestants have to tackle a 250 metro assault course, all with ‘a little’ extra weight hanging upside-down from the man’s neck.

Midsummer – July Nordic Column

We celebrate Midsummer Eve in our summer cottage in the Finnish archipelago. The vegetable garden has been sown for the summer’s harvest with potato, salad, beans, onions, peas, chives and last but not least, the dill for our ‘gravlax’ the marinated salmon Scandinavian style. Geraniums in their boxes are bright red against the sheer greenery of birches and scrubs. Lilies of the valley and lilac branches decorate the tables of our cabin.

Nordic Viewpoint

I would guess that more than 1000 people, mostly seniors, from the Nordic countries spend from 2-8 months in Almuñécar every year, enjoying the tropical climate, healthy food, good wine and friendly atmosphere that the town has to offer.
